Population

How we feel about it:

Predictions of the rate at which population continues to grow are sometimes frightening, considering the difficulty encountered in feeding, clothing, educating, etc., even the people that are here today.  If we can't handle it now, how will we cope when the world population reaches twice its current size or more?

Population Connection
Overpopulation threatens the quality of life for people everywhere.  Population Connection educates young people and advocates progressive action to achieve world population levels that can be sustained by Earth's resources.
Population growth is foremost among the factors aggravating deforestation, wildlife extinction, and climate change.  The pressure on infrastructure and land to support increased populations threatens the aspirations of the poor for a better life.  Lower birth rates are highly correlated with increased education, particularly among women in LDC's.  This can be addressed by expanding education, advocacy and service efforts that lower birth rates.  Formerly known as Zero Population Growth. International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF)
Promotes the rights of women and men to decide on the number and spacing of their children.  They believe that there must be a balance between the world's population and its natural resources and productivity for improving the quality of life on the planet.  They identify six major challenges:  1.  To meet the demand and unmet need for quality services; 2.  To promote sexual and reproductive health for all; 3.  To eliminate unsafe abortion; 4.  To take affirmative action to gain equity, equality and empowerment for women; 5.  To help young people understand their sexuality and to provide services that meet their demands; 6.  To maintain the highest standards of care throughout the Federation.
